Why QBI Exists
Closing the Gap Between Availability and Commercial Readiness
An ingredient can be readily available online and still be surprisingly difficult to source well.
Specialty botanical actives often sit between early market demand and mature commodity supply. Multiple manufacturers may appear to offer the same ingredient while using different botanical sources, specifications, analytical methods, production processes, or definitions of purity and standardization.
Supplier certificates can be useful, but they must be interpreted in relation to the material they describe. Qualification samples may not be the same production lot later offered commercially. A botanical extract sold under one name may contain a very different concentration of the constituent another buyer expects.
QBI was established to work in that gap: identifying promising supply, defining what matters commercially, evaluating the evidence, and helping qualified buyers move from ingredient discovery toward usable supply.

Specification Before Story
Botanical Names Are Context. Specifications Make Them Commercially Useful.
Plant names, traditional-use narratives, extract ratios, and broad purity descriptions do not replace a measurable ingredient requirement.
For a standardized extract, the useful commercial question may be how much of a particular marker compound is present. For an isolate, it may be the identity and assay of the purified compound. For minimally processed botanical material, species, plant part, physical form, and relevant markers may matter most.
Testing and documentation requirements can also differ according to the buyer, formulation, ingredient format, order quantity, and intended use.

Testing & Documentation
Analytical Review Is Part of Sourcing, Not a Blanket Claim
QBI uses documentation and analytical information to understand the material—not to imply that every ingredient follows one identical testing program.
Depending on the ingredient and qualification stage, QBI may review supplier certificates and specifications, independently evaluate a target active or marker, compare candidate materials, investigate unexpected laboratory results, or coordinate additional testing.
Potency or marker verification and contaminant testing answer different questions. Available testing therefore varies by ingredient and production lot.
When a current full-panel result applies to material being offered, it can be supplied. For commercial orders of 1kg or more, additional full-panel testing can also be arranged when required, with laboratory testing charged at pass-through cost.
What matters is clarity about what has actually been evaluated.
QBI aims to distinguish supplier information, independent analytical results, lot-specific documentation, and testing that may still need to be performed.
