A More Disciplined Approach to Specialty Botanical Sourcing

ABOUT QUALITY BOTANICAL IMPORTS

Quality Botanical Imports supplies standardized botanical extracts and purified botanical actives to qualified manufacturers, formulators, sourcing teams, and commercial R&D programs.

We focus on emerging and difficult-to-source ingredients where access to a supplier is only the beginning. Our role is to help turn variable international supply into commercially useful, specification-controlled ingredients supported by appropriate documentation and analytical review.

Why QBI Exists

Specialty botanical ingredients often occupy an uncomfortable space between early market interest and dependable commercial supply.

A compound may be available from several international manufacturers while still being difficult for a buyer to evaluate. Supplier specifications may use different analytical methods. Certificates of analysis may not reflect the material offered. Botanical extracts sold under the same name may contain substantially different concentrations of the active compounds a formulator actually needs.

QBI was established to help close that gap.

We identify promising production partners, evaluate candidate materials, coordinate independent analytical review where appropriate, and supply qualified buyers against defined product specifications.

We do not treat access to an ingredient as proof that the ingredient is commercially ready.

Our Role in the Supply Chain

QBI operates between international ingredient production and U.S. commercial formulation.

Our work may include:

  • Identifying manufacturers capable of producing specialty botanical ingredients to a defined specification

  • Reviewing supplier documentation and technical responsiveness

  • Evaluating representative samples before larger purchasing commitments

  • Coordinating independent identity, potency, and contaminant testing

  • Importing and holding commercial material in the United States

  • Providing batch-specific documentation for the material delivered

  • Supporting buyers from initial qualification through pilot and commercial quantities

The goal is not to eliminate every variable inherent in botanical sourcing. It is to identify, document, and control the variables that matter to the buyer’s specification and intended application.

Specification Before Story

Botanical ingredients are often marketed through plant names, extraction ratios, traditional-use narratives, or broad purity claims.

Those descriptions may provide useful context, but they do not replace a measurable product specification.

QBI begins with the commercial question:

What must this ingredient contain, and what evidence is needed to show that the material delivered meets that requirement?

For a purified active, that may mean a defined minimum assay. For a standardized extract, it may mean a target concentration or constituent profile. The relevant contaminant panel, physical characteristics, documentation, and sample requirements may also depend on the intended product format.

This specification-driven approach allows buyers to evaluate an ingredient based on what they will actually receive rather than on an unsupported supplier description.

Built for Qualified Commercial Buyers

QBI works primarily with:

  • Product formulators and R&D teams

  • Finished-product manufacturers

  • Contract manufacturers

  • Established and emerging botanical brands

  • Ingredient sourcing and procurement teams

  • Commercial buyers developing specialized botanical products

Our process is best suited to buyers who can provide an intended application, target specification, estimated quantity, development stage, and documentation requirements.

We support qualification samples, pilot quantities, and commercial supply according to current inventory and production availability.

Our Current Focus

QBI concentrates on a selective group of standardized extracts and purified botanical actives rather than attempting to operate as a general botanical catalog.

Current and developing product families include:

Nuciferine / Lotus

Standardized nuciferine extracts and verified 98% nuciferine isolate for qualified formulation and commercial development.

Mesembrine / Kanna

Mesembrine-focused kanna extracts and purified actives undergoing supplier and specification qualification.

Honokiol & Magnolol / Magnolia

Magnolia-derived ingredients standardized around honokiol, magnolol, and balanced constituent profiles.

Custom Sourcing

Evaluation of difficult-to-source botanical extracts and purified actives for buyers with a defined commercial need.

Verification Is Part of the Product

QBI treats supplier qualification, documentation review, and analytical confirmation as part of the ingredient offering—not as administrative work performed after a purchase decision.

The appropriate process varies by material. Depending on the ingredient and intended commercial use, review may include identity and potency testing, comparison against the supplier’s certificate of analysis, and contaminant screening through qualified U.S.-based analytical partners.

Commercial material is evaluated against the applicable QBI product specification before release, and the documentation accompanying an order applies to the material delivered.

Focused, Responsive Commercial Support

QBI is a focused U.S.-based specialty ingredient company headquartered in San Diego, California.

Our size allows us to remain closely involved in supplier communication, sample qualification, documentation, testing coordination, and buyer support. Qualified buyers communicate with people directly involved in evaluating and supplying the material rather than being routed through a general commodity-sales operation.

We aim to be clear about what is available, what has been tested, what remains under qualification, and what documentation can accompany a commercial order.

Start With the Specification

Tell us what you are developing, the ingredient or active concentration you require, your estimated quantity, and your documentation needs.

QBI can share current specifications, qualification status, sample options, commercial availability, and lead times.
